Personal Profile
Throughout my working life I have been involved in enabling people to grow and change. Prior to training as a psychotherapist, my background was in Human Resources management.
I am a professionally qualified psychotherapist (TSTA (P)), supervisor and trainer , established in private practice since 2004. Working as a therapist is deeply rewarding and I continue to have a genuine passion for my work.
In addition to my therapeutic and supervisory work in private practice, I am an experienced trainer who has worked at Metanoia Institure, Physis Scotland, Peter Symonds College and from September 2024, Basingstoke Counselling Service.
I am a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) . I am bound by and adhere to its Code of Ethics.
My knowledge and skills have developed through my psychotherapeutic work in private practice, as a counsellor in the NHS, as a bereavement counsellor, as an adoption counsellor for Barnardo's and in a corporate setting as a redundancy and outplacement counsellor. I believe that there is always something new to learn working in this field and make a regular commitment to on-going professional development and clinical supervision.
I work as a clinical supervisor to counselling and psychotherapy students as well as offering supervision within my private practice to trainees, qualified practitioners, other supervisors and other health care professionals. Please refer to the supervision page for further details.
I work with clients from the age of 18 on an individual basis and with couples, dealing with a wide range of issues. The length of time clients work with me varies according to the needs of each person and includes both longer term psychotherapeutic work as well as short term solution focused counselling. In broad terms, short term counselling will typically be 6 - 12 sessions whilst working psychotherapeutically at greater depth will take longer.
My Personal Approach
I am trained in the Humanistic and Transactional Analysis (TA) models of counselling and psychotherapy and practice relational psychotherapy.
Put simply, TA is a model which focuses on how we interact with others as well as how we see see ourselves, others and the world. By reflecting on our thinking, feeling and behaviours we can address those aspects which are blocking us from being able to address current difficulties or perhaps from achieving our potential.
I will share this knowledge with you where it would be helpful, to enable you to develop tools that you can use in everyday life beyond the completion of our work.
